Home of the four-time NJCAA Division III National Champion Sullivan Generals.
It is our honor and pleasure to welcome players, coaches, families and fans alike to our campus for the 2011 NJCAA Division III Men’s Basketball National Championship. Having traveled to play in the tournament a number of times, we are happy to finally bring it to our home court from March 10th through the 12th.
This year’s Tournament Director is Chris DePew, SUNY Sullivan’s Athletic Director. Chris and everyone on our campus staff and faculty – as well as our community at large – look forward to hosting everyone involved with this exciting sporting event. We hope you enjoy your visit to our campus and to New York’s beautiful Catskill Mountains.
A History of Hosting...
Did you know that arguably one of the most popular three-day festival in modern history actually took place right here in Sullivan County? It was in Bethel, New York – just 17 miles from campus – that the Woodstock Festival took place in 1969. That site is now home to the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, a world class outdoor music venue and museum. Sullivan County has also played host to the New York State Firefighters Convention, the Maurice Stokes Basketball Tournament, the All Tomorrow’s Parties Music Festival, and countless races and road rallies.
The Home Court...
The setting for this year’s tournament games will be the spectacular Paul Gerry Fieldhouse, our 30,000-square-foot athletics facility. In 2007 the fieldhouse had state-of-the-art flooring installed, and received a lighting system upgrade. In fact, the flooring project was named the 2007 Installation Project of the Year by Gerflor Sports Flooring. Along with the courts, the Paul Gerry Fieldhouse has a fitness center, cardio room, indoor running track and basketball, volleyball, tennis, badminton and racquetball courts.
In 2008, the fieldhouse was connected to the college's geothermal heating and cooling system, making it the largest enclosed air-conditioned facility in the area. It is, by all measures, a great place to see a game.
